La Costa CA

La Costa refers to both the residential community in Carlsbad CA and the world-class golf and tennis resort & spa that thrives at the center of this Northern San Diego County Community. La Costa CA is located primarily south of Alga Road, east of El Camino Real, north of Olivenhain Blvd., and west of the north-south portion of Rancho Santa Fe Blvd.  The La Costa Resort & Spa consists of two 18-hole golf courses, the resort hotel, the resorts condominium units, 19 tennis courts, and the resorts related retail businesses…  One of which is the Chopra Center operated by Dr. Deepak Chopra.  In this picturesque river valley you will also find the Batiquitos Lagoon.  In fact, many of the older and newly built La Costa CA Homes have a view of the Ocean, Lagoon, or the La Costa Golf Course.

La Costa Real Estate

La Costa’s development began in 1965, when Irv Roston and a partner of the Desert Inn hotel in Las Vegas purchased 3,500 acres (14 km²) of this scenic area.  A golf course was developed and homes began to be built and sold shortly there after.  The 90-room Rancho La Costa Inn was built to accommodate the visitors to the golf course. Then, the Spa was added and ultimately, another 2,000 acres (8 km²) were purchased as the Inn grew in size. Sports Shinko, a Japanese company, bought the Resort in 1987.  After years of decline, it was purchased in 2001 by KSL Resorts, a California resort hotel group who proceeded to give La Costa a major renovation and now this resort is once again a world class resort and spa.

Today, La Costa real estate is mostly residential, with shopping centers, upscale boutiques, and fine dining restaurants. The La Costa Real Estate Market has a healthy mix of La Costa Homes and La Costa Condos.  As mentioned above the development began in 1965 so there are several older developments in La Costa.  Yet, with the recent surge in the California real estate market and the renovation of the resort there has been many recent developments popping up in the La Costa Valley.  Some of the more popular developments:

La Costa CA Schools

Because of overlapping district lines, schools within the community may be located in one of three school districts, Carlsbad, San Marcos, or San Diegito school district.  La Costa Canyon High School, located in the San Diegito School District, serves residents of Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe and the southern La Costa communities. The the eastern portion of La Costa is served by the San Marcos School district.  The northwestern areas are serviced by the Carlsbad school district.
